A Gorgeous Idea for Loose Diamonds

One of the most common requests we get for redesign work is to reset a family diamond in a more wearable setting. Many of our clients have either inherited jewelry from family members that isn’t their style, or they come to us because they are interested in resetting a diamond setting from a previous marriage into a different - less engagement feeling - design.

Sometimes, resetting a larger-sized solitaire diamond in something that doesn’t feel like an engagement ring can be tricky, but our sure-fire suggestion for someone who wants to branch outside of another ring is to consider a simple station necklace for their diamond(s). Diamond station necklaces are elegant, effortless, and totally wearable. You can opt for a classic style or do something a little dressier, if that’s more your tone. In either case, picking a design that will be comfortable for you and show off the gemstone well is integral to a successful redesign, so we often recommend opting for a custom-created setting rather than a prefabricated option that might not ideally fit the gem.

Our client in this project came to us with multiple family diamonds that she had inherited over the years. She knew she wanted to utilize the gems in a practical piece that she could wear regularly, so after trying out a few options we landed on the idea of doing a layered diamond station necklace set. She opted for a lariat style design for the marquis diamond and a classic shorter station style for the larger round. She was thrilled with the result and loves having the option to dress her necklaces up or down, depending on her mood. I mean, how pretty would these be in any jewelry box?!
