Visiting from out of town?

Here are some ideas of how to make the perfect day out of your visit to Old Town…

  • Breakfast in Old Town has always been a little lacking, but if you scheduled a afternoon appointment and want to fill your morning we recommend swinging by Mae’s Market & Cafe for a breezy coffee and tasty breakfast options. Fontaine Bistro is right next door to us and serves cute crepes, but they open at 10am so they might be better saved for a brunch or lunch option.

If you love farmers markets, you’re in luck. Every Saturday, all year round, Old Town hosts the Old Town Farmer’s Market. Open from 7am to noon, you can find produce, baked goods, prepared foods, fresh pastas, flowers, and so many other options. It gets busy later in the morning, so go early if you want to avoid the crowds and then stop by South Block for an energizing smoothie before your Alx&Co. appointment.

  • If you schedule your appointment at 10am or 11am, you have a beautiful day ahead of you. Once you’re finished with your consultation, we recommend wandering down to the waterfront for a early afternoon cocktail and tapas at Barca, a beautiful on-the-water restaurant with a cool Mediterranean vibe. Be sure to walk through The Torpedo Factory Art Center to see art from local artisans and enjoy the always-rotating public art at the waterfront. You can then take your time coming back along King Street to shop local favorites such as The Seedling Collective, Old Town Books, The Shoe Hive, Yellow Jacket, and Monday’s Child. Good to know: a lot of the best shopping is one block off of King Street, so don’t bee afraid to leave the main drag!

Further up the corridor, you can stop for a quick pick-me-up at Mae’s Market or Foxtrot Market, then continue to more best-in-town shopping at Red Barn Mercantile, Penny Post, MANSE, and The Hour. We also boast one of the only zero-waste shops in the area - Mason & Greens - so stop by for environmentally-conscious options for your home.

  • Now that you have worked up your appetite from all the walking you have done, you have some fabulous options for dinner to look forward to. If “teeny, locals-filled wine bar” is your vibe, don’t miss Brut Champagne & Wine Bar, located directly across the street from us. Check their hours - they tend to open around 4 or 5, and snag a table if you can. Afterwards, we highly recommend Nasime and Le Fromagerie for truly remarkable dinner options. Nasime requires a reservation, so book ahead and be prepared for a multi-course Japanese feast. Le Fromagerie feels like how a high-quality, chef-driven local spot should feel: perfectly casual but incredibly elevated in its presentation. Try to save a bit of room (and energy) for one of the best kept secrets of Old Town: Captain Gregory’s. You’ll need to walk a few blocks and reservations are highly recommended, but it’s completely worth it for the thoughtful, curated cocktails and small bites. Captain Gregory’s rotates its menus seasonally, so you’re always in for a treat when you visit.

  • If you’re spending the night, we recommend The Lorien. Check out Brabo downstairs for another fabulous meal option - it’s an Old Town classic.

  • Truly, in Old Town, the ice cream options deserve their own section. We have a lot of ice cream in this town and they’re all a little different. Our personal favorites are Casa Rosada (near Le Fromagerie and Nasime) and the more-famous counterpart, Jeni’s. Casa Rosada’s gelato is homemade, truly special, and they have interesting flavors all the time, whereas Jeni’s is great for a classicly rich ice cream in their signature waffle cones. The options by the waterfront are a bit more tourist-minded, but good nonetheless (really, is there bad ice cream?)
